The Asian Centre for Liver Diseases & Transplantation (ACLDT) located at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore, has been established since 1994 to cater to the increasing number of patients seeking treatment for all types of liver disease. It is the first private centre in Asia dedicated to the treatment of liver disease in adults and children. It is now a well-established centre of excellence, treating liver patients from all over the region led by renowned liver transplant and hepato-biliary surgeon, Dato' Dr Tan Kai Chah.

ACLDT consists of outpatient facilities as well as a dedicated in-patient Liver Ward with its own Liver Intensive Care Unit (LICU). The Centre performs living donor liver transplantation for both adults and children. Liver failure patients are also transplanted once they have been stabilised in the LICU. Some of these patients may need liver dialysis as a bridge to liver transplantation while waiting for a suitable liver donor. At ACLDT, we use different liver dialysis devices, making us unique in being the only commercial centre in the world to do so. This allows us to customize the treatment according to the patient's condition and other co-morbid diseases.

With our vast experience, we have become a referral centre for treatment of acute liver failure. Besides liver transplantation, we treat the whole spectrum of liver diseases including liver cancer, viral hepatitis, biliary and pancreatic diseases. All interventional endoscopic methods are available, as well as interventional radiology. Given our regional clientele, we also provide specialised evacuation services for patients who are critically ill with liver disease.

ACLDT has also broadened its expertise to provide several other services beyond liver diseases. These include preventive screening, treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, vaccinations, surgery (such as pancreas, gallbladder) and various procedures such as colonoscopy, radio-frequency ablation (RFA) and chemotherapy. Given its experience with critically ill patients, the Centre also provides critical care services in our well-equipped and dedicated modern LICU. There are also several clinical trials for liver cancer that are currently in place at our Centre.
