DOs and DON’Ts
DO :
- Get the Hepatitis A and B vaccines
- Be under the care of a liver specialist
- Always eat a well-balanced meal
- Tone down on your daily activities and take things easy
- Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration
- Take in smaller amounts of food to counter nausea
- Take naps when you can
- Practice safe sex using condom and inform your partner so that they can be tested and/ or be immunized
- Strict personal hygiene
- Cover up all open sores and wounds
- Clean all contaminated surfaces with household bleach to kill the virus
- Monitor your liver health and visit your doctor at least once a year to check on the progression of the disease
- On routine visits to the doctors, dentist, please remind them that you are a carrier
- Avoid depressing or overwhelming tasks
- Stay informed about research developments regarding treatments so you are able to make the best decisions.
DON'T :
- Drink alcohol as this might further damage your liver
- Take certain prescribed, over-the-counter medications or herbal supplements without your doctor’s knowledge
- Exercise vigorously
- Share your toothbrush, razors, nail clippers, syringes etc with others
- Donate blood, plasma, organs, sperm or tissues
- Pass food that has been in your mouth or pre-chew food for babies
