Introduction

• The liver is the second largest and one of the most vital organ in your body
• It is the only organ that can regenerate or rebuild by itself
• It is shaped almost like a triangle and is divided into 2 main lobes – the right lobe and the left lobe
• It can weigh up to 1.4 kilogrammes in an adult
• Dark reddish brown in color, it is located behind your right ribs and stretches across the abdomen to the left upper abdomen
• It is covered entirely by a double layer of thin membrane that keeps it in place and reduces friction against other organs in the abdominal cavity
• The liver functions as a regulation, storage, purification unit of our body
